Product Review: Space Marine and Dark Eldar Megaforce by GW

Ok, let’s review GWs latest effort and selling models in bulk: The Megaforce (40K). I’ll go through each of the 2 and provide price comparisons and comments on the models involved.

Value breakdown (current prices 01 Dec 2011):

20 Tactical Marines $124.00

5 Space Marine Scouts $41.00

5-man Command Squad $55.00

Space Marine Commander $37.00

Venerable Dreadnought $74.00

Land Speeder Storm $50.00

Drop Pod $55.00

Land Raider Crusader $110.00

Total Value: $546.00 (35.89% discount)

Value Comment:

I challenge anyone to get a better price on this, even wholesale. This is the kit for anyone who wants to start a new army, as per the advert on the website (bel0w).

Pros: Great value for money, a high proportion of highly competitive models and units to fill out a Space Marine army. A bit of everything.

Cons: No Rhinos or Razorbacks means that these will be the high cost items to finish off this army as a competitive choice. No Terminators – same comment as above. Scouts are a “meh” choice (even though they are cool models)

Dark Eldar Megaforce

Quote:

This huge boxed set contains 47 plastic miniatures, including: 10 Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors, 20 Dark Eldar Wyches, 9 Reaver Jetbikes, 5 Scourges, a Venom, a Raider and a Ravager gunship. These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require assembly – we recommend using Citadel Plastic Glue and Citadel Paints.

Note: Due to high demand, this item is restricted to a quantity of 3 per customer.

Cost: $350.00 AUD

Value breakdown (current prices 01 Dec 2011):

10 Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors $48.00

20 Dark Eldar Wyches $96.00

9 Reaver Jetbikes $174.00

5 Scourges $41.00

Venom $50.00

Raider $55.00

Ravager gunship $83.00

Total Value: $547.00 (36% discount)

Value Comment:

Again, great value as the Space Marine force above. I question the number of jetbikes in this kit, especially if someone thinks to purchase 2 or more??? Also, there are no characters included in the bundle, which makes me wonder why??? (It’s probably to do with them being finecast)

Pros: Lots of stuff at a great price with lots of competitive models (unless you play a Haemonculus and Wracks army)

Cons: Not many great models for Haemonculus/Wrack army. Too many jetbikes. Not enough transports which are critical to the army.
